TIG Rod for 304 and 308 Stainless
This Hobart ER308/308L rod joins stainless grades 304, 304L, 304LN, 308, 308L, 321 and 347. The 1/16 inch diameter and 36 inch length suit precision GTAW work. Each 10 lb package contains 1 lb rods classified for DCEN current. The deposit delivers 88 ksi tensile and 59 ksi yield strength.
For Shops Welding Austenitic Stainless
Fabricators running TIG on the listed austenitic grades will match chemistry and mechanicals. Operations needing filler for ferritic, duplex or nickel-alloy bases should select a different classification. The rod is not intended for MIG, stick or flux-core processes.
ER308/308L Classification Controls Compatibility
The AWS ER308/308L designation defines the alloy composition and approved base metals. Matching this classification to the joint design and base grade is the single factor that decides fit. Using a different classification risks corrosion or cracking in service.

Questions about this item
Should I choose the 1 lb or 10 lb pack for my project?
The product ships as a 10 lb tube of 36 in rods; the 1 lb figure in the spec sheet refers to the unit weight used for classification, not a separate pack size.
What does the 88 ksi tensile strength mean when I am welding?
It means the deposited weld metal can withstand 88 000 psi of pulling force before breaking, giving strong joints on 304, 304L, 321 and 347 stainless grades.
How does the ER308/308L classification limit the welding current I can use?
The rods are designated for DCEN polarity only, so you must run direct current electrode negative on your TIG machine.
