Nozzles, tips and lugs are specific to the machine

Welding gear is built as systems. Torch heads, nozzles, contact tips and diffusers belong to one torch series, and the listing usually names the series or machine it fits. Cable lugs and connectors must match the cable's size and the machine's output stud. A rating such as 260 A on a nozzle shows the duty the part can take, so choose parts rated at or above the machine's maximum output. Gas welding, MIG, TIG and plasma cutting all use different consumables, so confirm the process before matching any part.

Positioners, protection and gas fittings

A positioner holds the workpiece and rotates or tilts it so the joint stays in a comfortable position; compare its weight rating, table size and how the ground connection is made. Protection must suit the process: gas work uses light lens shades and arc welding needs much darker ones, and ordinary safety glasses are not a substitute. Torches, regulators and hoses are specific to the gas in use, and fuel-gas fittings use left-hand threads so they cannot be fitted to oxygen. Never mix parts between gas systems.

Questions about Welding Equipment, Torches and Consumables

What shade number should a welding lens be?
It depends on the process and current. Gas welding and brazing use light shades, roughly 3 to 8, while arc welding commonly needs much darker lenses, around 10 to 13. Auto-darkening helmets adjust within a range, so check that range covers your process.
Are MIG and TIG consumables interchangeable?
No. MIG uses contact tips, nozzles and liners sized for the wire, while TIG uses tungsten electrodes, collets and cups. Each torch series has its own parts, so match the part to your torch model and not only to the process.
What does a welding positioner do?
It holds the workpiece and rotates or tilts it so the weld stays in a comfortable, flat position. Check the weight rating, the table or chuck size and how the ground connection is made, since welding current must have a clean path back to the machine.
