Two-drawer lateral file for office storage

The HON 892LL 800 Series lateral file provides two full-width drawers that hold letter-size or legal-size folders from side to side. Adjustable hangrails are included to configure the interior spacing. A mechanical interlock permits only one drawer to open at a time, reducing the risk of the cabinet tipping. This unit suits offices that need high-density filing in a 42-inch-wide footprint.

Limits of side-to-side filing

Drawers accept folders only in a side-to-side orientation; front-to-back filing is not supported. The dual side locks secure both drawers simultaneously, so individual drawer locking is not possible. The HON One Key interchangeable core allows rekeying across multiple cabinets but requires a separate core key for changes. Buyers who need front-to-back folder runs or per-drawer lock control should look elsewhere.

Reinforced steel case

The welded steel case receives a phosphate pretreatment and baked enamel finish in Putty for corrosion resistance. Three-part telescoping ball-bearing slides deliver smooth travel and include a drawer-extension restraint that prevents accidental full withdrawal. Four adjustable leveling guides compensate for uneven floors, and the factory-installed counterweight adds stability when a drawer is fully extended. Flush drawer fronts and full-width designer handles with magnetic label holders complete the exterior.

Questions about this item

Is the 42-inch width the only size available in the 800 Series lateral file?

The 892LL model is built at 42 inches wide; other widths in the 800 Series would carry different model numbers.

How does the 28-inch height affect daily use in a typical office?

At 28 inches high the cabinet sits at standard desk height, so the top works as a credenza surface and the drawers stay within easy reach.

What does the dual side lock on the 892LL actually secure?

The single lock mechanism engages both sides of each drawer, and the mechanical interlock prevents a second drawer from opening while one is extended.
