What this cable does

The Hosa Technology YMP-434 is a stereo Y-cable that splits a single 3.5 mm TRS female connector into two 1/4 inch TS male plugs. It lets musicians and audio engineers route a headphone or line-level signal to a pair of mixer channels, audio interfaces or powered monitors in stage and studio setups.

Check your connectors and signal type

Verify that your source device presents a 3.5 mm TRS output and that the destination gear accepts 1/4 inch TS inputs for unbalanced mono signals. The cable carries a stereo split, so each TS plug carries one channel; it will not combine two sources into one input or convert balanced lines without additional adapters.

Behaviour during extended sessions

The moulded connectors and shielded conductors maintain consistent signal integrity through long rehearsals or recording takes. Because the assembly is passive, it adds no active circuitry that could overheat or introduce noise when patch bays remain connected for hours at a time.

Questions about this item

Does the YMP-434 package include the dual 1/4" TS plugs or must they be purchased separately?

The cable arrives with a 3.5 mm TRS plug on one end and two 1/4" TS plugs on the other, so no additional connectors are needed.

Should I choose the YMP-434 or a different Hosa model for splitting a stereo headphone signal to two mono inputs?

The YMP-434 is built exactly for that task — its TRS-to-dual-TS wiring separates left and right channels into two mono plugs.

What does the 3.5 mm TRS connector on the YMP-434 do when plugged into a laptop headphone jack?

It carries both left and right audio channels from the jack into the cable, where the Y-split sends each channel to its own 1/4" TS plug.
