Large-screen work laptop

The HP 17 laptop pairs a 17.3-inch HD+ anti-glare display with an Intel Core i3-N305 eight-core processor, 32GB of DDR4 memory and a 2TB PCIe solid-state drive. It ships with Windows 11 Home and an Office 2021 licence for immediate productivity. The silver chassis measures 15.78 by 10.15 by 0.78 inches and weighs 4.56 pounds. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth, plus a webcam for video calls.

Thermals and power profile

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics share system memory and keep power draw modest during office tasks, web browsing and media playback. Fan noise stays low for typical workloads, while the 250-nit panel draws little energy at its native 1600 by 900 resolution. Battery life scales with screen brightness and background activity. No backlit keyboard is fitted, further reducing idle consumption.

Ports and bundled software

One USB-C 5Gbps port (data only), two USB-A 5Gbps ports and an HDMI 1.4b output handle peripherals and external displays. A headphone/microphone combo jack and the AC smart-pin power connector complete the I/O. The pre-installed Office 2021 licence enables document creation without a subscription. There is no SD card reader, fingerprint sensor or backlit keyboard.

Questions about this item

How do I install an M.2 PCIe SSD in this laptop, and which step is often missed?

Remove the bottom panel, insert the 2 TB PCIe drive into the M.2 slot at a 30 ° angle, press down and secure the screw; the step many miss is re-seating the battery connector before closing the case.

What maintenance will the 32 GB DDR4 memory and 2 TB PCIe SSD need over time?

The soldered 32 GB DDR4 cannot be upgraded; the 2 TB PCIe SSD is replaceable, so plan to swap it if capacity or health monitoring tools report wear.

At what point does the Intel Core i3-N305 hit its thermal limit during a long compile?

The 8-core i3-N305 with 3.8 GHz turbo will throttle once the cooling assembly reaches its saturation point, typically after several minutes of all-core load.
