HP 17 laptop i5-1135G7 17.3" FHD

This new HP 17 laptop runs Windows 11 Home on an Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor with 12GB of DDR4 memory. It has a 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD and a 17.3 inch Full HD IPS display. The silver chassis weighs 4.62lb and includes a 720p webcam.

Who this suits and who it does not

It suits users wanting a large 17.3 inch screen for office work, web browsing and video calls with a comfortable keyboard layout. Buyers who want a touchscreen, a dedicated graphics card or a lighter device for frequent travel should look elsewhere.

12GB DDR4 memory soldered and slotted

The system ships with 12GB of DDR4 SO-DIMM memory. This amount handles typical multitasking and business applications, but the configuration cannot be upgraded beyond the installed capacity.

Questions about this item

How do I add more memory to the 12GB DDR4 SO-DIMM and which slot do I use?

Remove the base cover, locate the single SO-DIMM slot beside the 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD, insert the new DDR4 module at 45 degrees and press until the clips click.

What part will need replacement first during the laptop's life?

The 3-cell 41 WHr battery will lose capacity before the 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD or the soldered processor; plan a battery swap after a few years of daily charging.

Which limit appears first when the Intel Core i5-1135G7 runs at 4.2 GHz for a long period?

The 45W power supply and 3-cell 41 WHr battery cannot sustain the 4.2 GHz turbo indefinitely, so the CPU throttles to stay within the thermal and power envelope.
