Large-screen everyday laptop

The HP 17.3 inch laptop pairs a 12th Gen Intel Core i5-1235U processor with 32GB of memory and a 1TB solid-state drive. It runs Windows 11 Home and uses Intel Iris Xe graphics for daily tasks. The HD+ display measures 17.3 inches diagonally at 1600 by 900 resolution. This configuration suits students and office workers who value screen space over portability.

Sustained workload behaviour

The 10-core, 12-thread processor reaches 4.4 GHz boost clocks with a 12 MB L3 cache for responsive multitasking. Integrated Iris Xe graphics share system memory, so heavy rendering or gaming will throttle once thermal limits are reached. The 250-nit BrightView panel remains legible indoors but struggles in direct sunlight. Buyers who need discrete GPU power or higher sustained clock speeds should look elsewhere.

Build, ports and daily use

A lift-hinge design angles the full-size island-style keyboard with numeric keypad for comfortable typing. Connectivity includes one USB Type-C 5Gbps port limited to data transfer, two USB Type-A 5Gbps ports, HDMI 1.4b and a headphone combo jack. Wireless uses Realtek Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5. The 720p webcam with dual microphones handles video calls, while dual speakers provide basic audio output.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the Core i5-1235U get when the 17.3" laptop runs all day?

The 10-core, 12-thread Core i5-1235U tops out at 4.4 GHz and is cooled by the lift-hinge design; fan noise and surface temperature rise with sustained load but remain within normal office-laptop limits.

Which peripherals must I already own to use the single USB-C port that handles data only?

You need a USB-C hub or adapter for charging, external monitors or legacy devices because the lone USB-C 5Gbps port supports data transfer only and does not carry power or video.

Will my older HDMI 1.4 monitor run at its native resolution from the HDMI 1.4b output?

Yes, the HDMI 1.4b port can drive an external display up to 1080p at 60 Hz, matching most HDMI 1.4 monitors, while the built-in 1600 x 900 panel stays active.
