17.3-inch FHD laptop with 32 GB DDR5

The HP 17 laptop pairs a 17.3-inch Full HD IPS display with an Intel Core 5 120U 10-core processor that reaches 5.0 GHz. It ships with 32 GB of DDR5 memory and a 1 TB NVMe SSD running Windows 11 Home. The silver chassis weighs 4.43 lb and measures 15.65 x 10.09 x 0.65 inches.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

A 45-watt AC adapter supplies power to the 3-cell lithium-ion battery for typical productivity workloads. The integrated Intel graphics and 10-core CPU handle web browsing, office apps and video playback without a discrete GPU. Fan activity stays modest during light multitasking and the non-backlit keyboard keeps power draw low.

Deciding specification — 32 GB DDR5 memory

The 32 GB DDR5 configuration supports heavy multitasking, large browser tab counts and memory-intensive apps in a single package. Buyers who need more storage or a dedicated graphics card for rendering or gaming should look elsewhere. The single SO-DIMM layout also means future upgrades require replacing the module rather than adding a second stick.

Questions about this item

How do I add more storage to the 1TB NVMe drive and which slot do I use?

The laptop uses a single M.2 slot for the 1TB NVMe SSD; adding a second drive requires removing the existing one, so plan capacity before opening the base cover.

When will the 3-cell 45-watt battery need replacing under daily charging?

Expect the 3-cell lithium-ion pack to hold a useful charge for roughly two to three years of daily cycles before runtime drops noticeably.

At what point does the Intel Core 5 120U throttle during a long video export?

Sustained loads push the 10-core chip to its 45-watt adapter limit, so thermal throttling typically appears once the cooling system saturates during extended all-core work.
