HP NC7131 Gigabit Ethernet Card

The HP NC7131 is a Gigabit Ethernet network interface card designed for internal installation in compatible HP systems. It provides a wired network connection for laptops or servers that require hot-pluggable capability. This new component suits administrators adding or replacing a network adapter without powering down the host.

Hot-pluggable internal form factor

The card uses an internal hot-pluggable design so it can be inserted or removed while the system is running, provided the chassis and firmware support the feature. Buyers whose hardware lacks a matching hot-plug slot or who need an external USB or PCIe adapter should choose a different product.

Questions about this item

What does the Gigabit Ethernet rating mean when the NC7131 is installed in a laptop?

The Gigabit rating shows the network link can run at up to 1 Gb/s; actual file-transfer speed will depend on the laptop's internal bus and the switch or router at the other end.

What interface does the 223773-001 use and what throughput does that interface cap at?

The card uses a hot-pluggable internal connector designed for supported HP laptops; practical throughput is limited by that connector's signalling rate and the system's chipset.
