What the product is

The HP HyperX Alloy Origins Core is a tenkeyless mechanical gaming keyboard that uses HyperX Aqua switches with a 1.8 mm actuation point. It connects via a detachable USB cable measuring 5.9 ft and offers per-key RGB backlighting across 16777216 colours. The board is rated for 80 million keystrokes and includes 100% anti-ghosting plus a dedicated game mode.

Who this suits and who it does not

The tenkeyless form factor and tactile Aqua switches suit competitive gamers and typists who want a compact desk footprint with responsive feedback. Buyers who require a dedicated number pad for data entry or who prefer a wireless connection should look at something else. The keyboard supports Windows 10, 8.1, 8 and 7 only.

Capacity and headroom

The 80 million keystroke rating and full anti-ghosting provide ample headroom for extended gaming sessions and high-speed typing. Per-key RGB lighting allows detailed customisation without performance overhead. The fixed 5.9 ft cable length and lack of onboard macro storage limit flexibility for users who need longer reach or complex key programming.

Questions about this item

What USB port does the detachable cable need on my PC?

The keyboard uses a standard USB interface, so any USB Type-A port on a Windows 10, 8.1, 8 or 7 system will power it.

Will the tenkeyless form factor change how my existing full-size keycaps fit?

The compact layout removes the numeric pad but keeps standard key spacing, so your current keycap sets for the remaining keys will still align correctly.

How can I verify the per-key RGB lighting is functioning after I plug it in?

Open the HyperX NGenuity software; each of the 16777216 colours should be addressable per key, and the quick-start guide shows the default lighting modes to test.
