16-port SAS RAID controller

The HP Smart Array P800 provides sixteen SAS ports on a PCI Express card with 512 MB of integrated cache. It fits a standard bracket and is designed for servers that need many direct-attached drives. The controller manages RAID levels across a high port count without additional expander hardware. It suits administrators expanding internal storage arrays in compatible HP ProLiant systems.

Sustained throughput with 512 MB cache

The onboard cache absorbs write bursts and reorders reads to keep disk queues short during long backup or database jobs. Battery-backed options preserve cached data if power fails, preventing array corruption during extended writes. Thermal throttling is managed by the server chassis airflow rather than an on-card fan. The card targets workloads that run for hours, not brief benchmarks.

Questions about this item

How much heat or noise does the 16-port SAS RAID controller generate under continuous load?

The card is a PCI Express add-in board with 512 MB cache and a standard bracket; thermal output and fan noise depend on the server chassis airflow and workload.

What existing hardware must I have to install the P800 16-port SAS RAID controller?

You need an available PCI Express slot and compatible SAS drives or backplane; the controller includes a standard bracket for full-height installation.
