Media converter for single-mode fibre

The Black Box LHC212A converts a 10/100Base-TX copper link to a 100Base-FX single-mode fibre connection at 1310 nm. It provides one RJ-45 port and one duplex SC port for distances up to 6.21 mile over 8.3/125 µm cable. The unit is powered by an included 5 VDC AC adapter and ships in a standalone enclosure measuring 1 by 3.7 by 2.7 inches. RoHS and WEEE certifications confirm environmental compliance.

Replaces copper runs that exceed the 100 metre limit

When a twisted-pair segment cannot reach a remote switch or camera, this module bridges the gap with single-mode fibre instead of repeaters or additional switches. The upgrade is worth it whenever the link distance surpasses standard copper reach or when electrical isolation between sites is required. It supports the same 10/100 Mbps data rate on both sides, so no reconfiguration of existing Fast Ethernet equipment is necessary.

Steady throughput within Fast Ethernet limits

Under continuous load the converter forwards traffic at line rate without buffering delays because the copper and fibre interfaces operate at identical 100 Mbps speeds. The AC adapter supplies constant power, so there is no performance drop as a battery would exhibit during extended operation. The compact 11.20 oz chassis relies on passive cooling, which remains effective as long as ambient temperature stays within normal indoor ranges. Not suited for gigabit or multi-gigabit backbones that require higher bandwidth.
