Internal 12.7 mm SATA DVD-RW drive

This internal optical drive fits a standard 12.7 mm bay and connects through a SATA interface. It is intended for servers or workstations that still need to read or write DVDs and CDs. The double-layer capability supports higher-capacity discs for archiving or software installation.

Low thermal and acoustic impact

The drive draws power directly from the SATA connection without a separate power cable. In normal operation it generates minimal heat and runs quietly, making it suitable for densely populated server chassis. Power consumption stays modest during read and write cycles.

SuperMulti format support

SuperMulti compatibility means the drive handles DVD±R, DVD±RW, DVD-RAM, CD-R and CD-RW media without extra drivers. This breadth lets administrators use a single drive for legacy software, firmware updates and data recovery across multiple disc formats.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 12.7mm SATA DVD-RW drive in a server bay?

Slide the drive into a 12.7mm internal bay, secure it with the chassis screws, then connect the SATA data and power cables. The step people miss is locking the retention clip so the drive cannot vibrate loose.

What maintenance or replacement will the 684329-001 need over time?

The laser lens collects dust; clean it with a lens-cleaning disc every few months. When burns start failing verification, the laser diode has aged and the whole drive must be replaced.

What limit appears first during sustained write sessions on this Supermulti drive?

The 12.7mm form factor limits heat dissipation, so the drive throttles write speed once the internal temperature rises during long double-layer burns.
