HP 450GB 2.5" SAS 10K Laptop Drive

This new HP 697388-001 is a 450GB 2.5-inch internal hard drive spinning at 10000 RPM with a SAS 6Gb/s interface. It is supplied as a bare drive and carries the original HP part number 697388-001. The drive is built for HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000 storage systems where high-speed SAS connectivity is required.

Suited for HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000 upgrades

This drive fits administrators expanding or repairing HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000 arrays that accept 2.5-inch 10K SAS drives. Buyers who need a different form factor, a lower spindle speed, or a non-SAS interface should look elsewhere. It is not intended for consumer laptops or external enclosures.

SAS 6Gb/s interface decides compatibility

The single specification that determines fit is the SAS 6Gb/s interface combined with the 2.5-inch 10000 RPM form factor. Only systems that explicitly support this exact drive interface and physical size can use the part. Verify the array or server drive bay specifications before purchase.

Questions about this item

What does the 10000 RPM spindle speed mean for everyday workloads?

The 10000 RPM spindle speed reduces average latency and improves random read and write response times compared with slower laptop drives, benefiting database and transaction workloads.

How does the 6Gb/s SAS interface limit real-world throughput?

The 6Gb/s SAS interface caps the maximum theoretical transfer rate at 6 Gbit/s, so sustained sequential speeds cannot exceed that ceiling regardless of the drive's internal performance.

Will this 2.5 inch drive fit in a standard laptop bay or caddy?

The 2.5 inch form factor matches the common laptop and 3PAR StoreServ 7000 drive bay dimensions, allowing direct installation in compatible trays or caddies.
