HP 1.8TB SAS Enterprise Drive

This HP 791034-B21 is a 1.8TB 12G SAS hard drive spinning at 10K RPM in a 2.5-inch small form factor. It ships in a G8 G9 SmartDrive carrier for hot-plug installation in compatible ProLiant servers and storage arrays.

Suits ProLiant G8 G9 SAS bays

The drive fits HP G8 and G9 ProLiant servers and select storage arrays that accept 2.5-inch SAS hot-plug drives with the SC carrier. Buyers using consumer laptops, SATA-only backplanes or non-HP carriers cannot install this unit.

Deciding spec: 12G SAS 2.5-inch SC carrier

The single specification that determines fit is the 12G SAS interface combined with the G8 G9 SmartDrive carrier. Only systems designed for this exact carrier and SAS protocol will accept the drive.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5in SAS drive into the G8 or G9 SmartDrive carrier?

Slide the drive into the carrier until the connector seats, then press the release latch until it clicks; the carrier handle locks the drive to the backplane.

What part will need replacement after long-term 10K RPM operation?

The mechanical spindle and actuator assembly inside the 1.8TB drive will wear first and require a full drive swap.

What limit appears first when the 12Gb/s SAS link runs sustained writes?

The 10K RPM rotational speed caps sustained throughput before the 12Gb/s interface saturates.
