HP CD-RW 8100 Series

This HP CD-RW drive reads compact discs at 24x speed and writes CD-R media at 4x and CD-RW media at 2x. It connects through a standard internal interface for desktop installation. The unit is supplied new and was first listed by the manufacturer on 28 April 2026. It suits users adding legacy optical capability to a current build.

Suits legacy media access

Builders who need to read or write CD-R and CD-RW discs for archival or software installation will find the speeds adequate. The drive does not support DVD or Blu-ray formats, so systems requiring those media types should look elsewhere. It also lacks modern high-speed recording modes beyond the stated 4x and 2x ratings.

Sustained write behaviour

During extended CD-R sessions the 4x write speed remains steady without the acceleration found in faster recorders. CD-RW rewriting at 2x produces consistent throughput for packet writing or full disc erase cycles. The mechanism avoids the thermal throttling that can affect higher-speed drives during long burns.
