HP Refurbished
A 10-core Xeon server processor upgrade running at 2.8 GHz for compatible HP systems
This HP E2Q77AA module provides a ten-core Xeon E5-2680 v2 processor running at 2.8 GHz for compatible server platforms. It targets administrators refreshing E5-2600 v2 systems to extend virtualisation density or high-performance compute capacity. The refurbished unit replaces an existing CPU in supported HP server boards. It does not suit builds requiring newer socket generations or different core counts.
The processor operates within the standard thermal envelope defined for the E5-2600 v2 series at its rated frequency. Cooling performance depends entirely on the host server's heatsink and fan configuration rather than the processor itself. Acoustic output is determined by the chassis fan curves responding to CPU temperature. Power consumption scales with workload across the ten cores under typical data-centre tasks.
The upgrade package contains the processor unit only without a heatsink or thermal compound. Installation requires reusing the original cooling hardware or sourcing a compatible server-grade cooler separately. No firmware, drivers or management utilities are bundled; the host system BIOS governs feature enablement. Buyers needing a complete kit with cooler or pre-applied paste must obtain those items independently.

Power down the server, open the chassis, release the socket lever, align the processor notches with the socket keys, seat it gently without force, close and latch the lever, then apply the thermal interface material before refitting the heatsink — skipping the paste reapplication is the step most often missed.
The processor itself has no user-serviceable parts; plan to inspect and replace the thermal interface material and heatsink fan assembly during scheduled server maintenance cycles to maintain thermal performance.
The thermal design power ceiling is reached first; sustained all-core load pushes the package to its rated thermal envelope, requiring adequate chassis airflow and heatsink capacity to avoid throttling.
