Business 2-in-1 laptop

The HP Elite x360 1040 is a convertible laptop built for professionals who need a single device for office work, travel and creative review. Its 360-degree hinge supports laptop, tent and tablet modes, while the included active pen enables precise inking on the touchscreen. Windows 11 Pro provides enterprise-grade management and security features out of the box.

Build and connectivity

A silver aluminium chassis houses a 14.0-inch OLED panel protected by edge-to-edge glass, and the keyboard includes a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB 3.2 Type-C port and an HDMI output handle dual external displays, fast storage and docking through a single cable. The 65 Wh battery charges via the same Type-C connection using the supplied 65 W adapter.

Deciding specification

The 32 GB LPDDR5X memory is soldered to the mainboard and cannot be upgraded, so buyers who anticipate heavier multitasking or virtualisation workloads must be comfortable with that fixed capacity. The 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSD is the only internal storage slot, limiting future expansion to external drives. Intel Arc integrated graphics suit productivity and light content creation but not sustained 3D rendering or gaming.

Questions about this item

What does the dual Thunderbolt 4 interface cap in real use?

Each Thunderbolt 4 port delivers up to 40 Gbit/s for data, DisplayPort video and power delivery through the same USB-C connector.

What clearance does the 14.0" 2-in-1 chassis need to open fully?

The 360-degree hinge requires enough depth for the 12.4 in length to rotate flat; allow at least that much space behind the device.

How is the soldered 32 GB LPDDR5X memory installed, and what mistake do buyers make?

The memory is soldered to the mainboard at the factory; the common error is buying SO-DIMM modules expecting an upgrade slot that does not exist.
