Refurbished EliteBook 1040 G4 business laptop

This refurbished HP EliteBook 1040 G4 is a 14.0-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor with 3 MB L3 cache. It comes with 8GB of memory and a 256GB SSD running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 handles display output using shared system memory. The unit is sold in refurbished condition.

Upgrade from older dual-core ultrabooks

Replacing an earlier dual-core ultrabook with this Kaby Lake-based model brings a 7th generation Core i5, 8GB memory and a 256GB SSD in a single step. The jump is worth it when you need a lighter 14.0-inch chassis with Windows 10 Pro already licensed and a faster storage drive than a traditional hard disk. Older systems with 4GB memory or mechanical drives see the clearest benefit.

Suits mobile professionals needing a managed

This configuration suits mobile professionals who need a managed Windows 10 Pro device with solid-state storage and a business-grade chassis. Buyers who want more memory than 8GB, a larger SSD than 256GB, discrete graphics or a newer processor generation should look at something else. Users requiring a dedicated GPU for rendering or heavy compute workloads will not be served by the integrated graphics.

Questions about this item

What physical dimensions and mounting points does the 14.0-inch EliteBook 1040 G4 chassis require for a laptop sleeve or dock?

The 14.0-inch EliteBook 1040 G4 uses a standard clamshell form factor; measure the laptop's exact length, width and thickness before buying a sleeve, and verify any dock aligns with the USB-C and proprietary docking connector positions on the left and right edges.

How is the 256 GB SSD installed in the EliteBook 1040 G4, and what step do people often miss?

The 256 GB SSD sits in an internal M.2 slot; after removing the bottom cover, insert the drive at an angle, press it flat and secure the single retention screw — the step most people forget is re-seating the battery connector before closing the case.

Which components in the EliteBook 1040 G4 will likely need replacement first, and what are the specifications?

The 8 GB soldered memory cannot be upgraded, so plan for a future laptop if you need more RAM; the 256 GB SSD and the internal battery are the only user-replaceable parts, and both use standard M.2 and HP-specific battery form factors respectively.
