Ready for business travel

The HP EliteBook 840 G2 is a 14in laptop built for mobile professionals who need a reliable Windows 10 Pro machine. It runs on an Intel Core i5-5300U processor at 2.3GHz with 16GB of DDR3L memory and a 256GB SSD. The non-touch display keeps weight down while the integrated Intel HD Graphics handles everyday productivity tasks.

Durable chassis with essential ports

A black magnesium-alloy frame meets military-grade testing standards for shock and vibration resistance. Connectivity includes DisplayPort, VGA, USB 3.0 and wired LAN so you can dock at a desk or present in a meeting room without adapters. The integrated webcam supports video calls and the supplied power supply keeps the battery topped up during long days.

Fifth-generation dual-core limits

The i5-5300U tops out at 2.7GHz turbo, so heavy multi-threaded workloads such as video rendering or large dataset analysis will run slowly. Integrated graphics cannot accelerate modern 3D applications or drive multiple high-resolution external displays. Buyers who need more cores, dedicated GPU power or faster storage interfaces should look at newer platforms.

Questions about this item

Does the USB 3.0 port reach its 5 Gbps ceiling on this EliteBook 840 G2?

Yes, the USB 3.0 ports run at the full 5 Gbps specification supported by the Intel Core i5-5300U chipset.

What physical slots must be free to install the 16 GB DDR3L memory?

The 16 GB DDR3L ships in two SODIMM slots; both must be occupied, so no empty slot remains for an upgrade.

How is Windows 10 Pro 64-bit activated after the first boot, and what step do buyers often skip?

Connect to the internet, sign in with a Microsoft account, and accept the licence prompt — skipping the account step leaves the OS unactivated.
