Ready-to-work 14-inch business laptop

This HP EliteBook 840 G3 ships with Windows 10 Home installed on a fresh 1 TB NVMe drive. The dual-core i5-6300U runs at 2.40 GHz and boosts to 3.00 GHz for everyday office workloads. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR3 memory keep multiple browser tabs and documents responsive. The 14.0 inch FHD panel shows 1920 by 1080 pixels without touch input.

Build-around essentials and expansion room

Two memory slots accept up to 32 GB total, so you can add another DDR3 module later. The M.2 NVMe slot is already filled with the new 1 TB drive, leaving no second NVMe bay for extra solid-state storage. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 drives the internal screen and external displays through the ports on board. Bluetooth and a webcam are built in for meetings.

Upgrade path from older ultraportables

Coming from a machine with a mechanical hard drive or 8 GB of RAM, the NVMe storage and 16 GB memory deliver an immediate responsiveness jump. The 6th-generation dual-core processor outpaces earlier low-voltage dual-cores in burst tasks. Buyers who need a dedicated graphics chip, a touchscreen, or a second NVMe slot should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Will the Intel Core i5-6300U sustain its 3.00 GHz turbo under continuous load?

The processor can reach 3.00 GHz in short bursts, but sustained all-core speeds drop lower due to thermal limits in the 14.0" chassis.

How loud and hot does the EliteBook 840 G3 get when running all day?

The dual-core CPU and Intel HD Graphics 520 keep heat moderate; the single fan spins up audibly under load but stays quiet during office tasks.

Does the laptop need a separate charger or dock to operate?

It ships with its own 65 W USB-C power adapter, so no extra charger or dock is required for daily use.
