HP EliteBook 840 G3 laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-6500U dual-core processor running at 2.50 GHz with a turbo frequency of 3.10 GHz. It comes with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 1TB SATA SSD, running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit out of the box.

Professionals needing a portable Windows 10 machine

This unit suits professionals who need a portable Windows 10 machine with a 1920 x 1080 non-touch display and integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 for office applications and video calls. Buyers who require a dedicated graphics processor, a touchscreen, or more than 8GB of memory pre-installed should consider other options.

Dual-core Intel Core i7-6500U processor

The deciding specification is the dual-core Intel Core i7-6500U processor with a base clock of 2.50 GHz and a turbo boost to 3.10 GHz. It determines the performance ceiling for everyday workloads and limits the system to 64-bit Windows 10 Pro compatibility.

Questions about this item

How do I install extra memory in the EliteBook 840 G3 and which step do people often miss?

Open the bottom cover, insert DDR3 modules into the two available slots up to 32 GB total, and remember to seat each stick until the retention clips click — many forget the second clip.

What maintenance or replacement will the 1 TB 2.5" SATA SSD need later?

The drive has no moving parts, so only monitor SMART health and replace it if reallocated sectors rise or capacity drops below your needs.

What limit appears first on the Core i7-6500U with Intel HD Graphics 520 during sustained loads?

The dual-core 2.50 GHz processor hits its thermal ceiling before the GPU, causing clock speeds to drop from 3.10 GHz turbo to base frequency.
