EliteBook 840 G3 14.0" FHD

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch business laptop with a 1920 x 1080 FHD display. It runs on an Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor reaching 3.40 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 8GB DDR3 memory and a new 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. Windows 10 Home 64-bit comes pre-installed.

Upgrade from slower storage or less memory

Replacing a traditional hard drive with the 240GB NVMe SSD cuts boot and application load times. The two memory slots support up to 32 GB total, so adding a second module helps when multitasking heavier workloads. The jump is worth it if your current machine stalls on disk access or hits the 8GB ceiling.

Suits mobile professionals needing a light 14-inch

Buyers who want more than 240GB of internal storage should look elsewhere. Users requiring a dedicated graphics processor for rendering or gaming will not be served by the Intel HD Graphics 520. Touchscreen interaction is not available on this non-touch panel.

Questions about this item

Will the 14.0" EliteBook 840 G3 accept a second M.2 NVMe PCIe drive?

The laptop has one M.2 NVMe PCIe slot occupied by the 240GB SSD. The spec sheet lists only one M.2 NVMe PCIe drive, so a second M.2 NVMe cannot be added.

How do I install extra DDR3 memory in the two slots and which step is often missed?

Remove the base cover, insert each DDR3 SO-DIMM at an angle until the gold contacts disappear, then press down until the side clips click. The step people skip is pressing firmly enough to engage both clips.

When will the 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD likely need replacement?

A modern 240GB NVMe drive under normal office workloads typically lasts several years; plan to replace it once free space drops below 10 % or SMART health warnings appear.
