Business-ready 14 inch laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor at 2.40 GHz. It comes with 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a 128 GB SATA SSD. The IPS display runs at 1366 x 768 resolution with LED backlight. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed.

Mobile professionals needing memory capacity

This unit suits users who value a lightweight chassis with a high memory ceiling for multitasking across office applications and browser tabs. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 uses shared system memory and is not intended for gaming, CAD or video editing workloads. Buyers who want a touchscreen or a higher-resolution panel should look at something else.

32 GB DDR4 in a dual-core ultrabook

The defining specification is the 32 GB DDR4 configuration paired with a dual-core 2.40 GHz processor. Most ultraportables of this class ship with far less memory, so this combination lets you keep many business applications open simultaneously. The 128 GB SATA SSD provides fast boot times but limited local storage for large media libraries.

Questions about this item

How does the 2.4 GHz dual-core i5-6300U perform in daily office work?

The 2.4 GHz dual-core i5-6300U with 3 MB cache and four threads handles typical business applications, web browsing and document editing smoothly; the 32 GB DDR4 memory keeps many tabs and programs open without slowing down.

What external displays can the USB 3.1 Type-C port drive?

The USB 3.1 Type-C port supports data and video output; you can connect a monitor via the full-size DisplayPort or the VGA port for up to two external screens alongside the 14.0 inch 1366 x 768 panel.

Can I add a second drive internally and what size does the bay accept?

The 128 GB M.2 SATA SSD occupies the sole M.2 slot; there is no 2.5 inch bay, so internal storage cannot be expanded beyond the single M.2 drive.
