Product overview

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i5-6300U processor running at 2.4 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 128 GB SATA M.2 SSD. The Full HD display delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution on an LED backlit panel. Windows 10 Pro comes pre-installed.

Suitability and limits

This unit suits professionals who need a lightweight machine for office applications, web browsing and video calls using the integrated webcam. The Intel HD Graphics 520 uses shared system memory and is not designed for modern gaming, 3D rendering or heavy GPU compute workloads. Buyers who need dedicated graphics performance or more internal storage should look at other configurations.

Deciding specification

The 128 GB SATA M.2 SSD is the critical figure when matching this laptop to a workload. It provides enough space for the operating system, core business software and a modest working set of files. Users with large local media libraries, virtual machines or extensive project archives will need external drives or a model with a larger capacity drive.

Questions about this item

What operating system must I already have a licence for if I want to reinstall Windows 10 Pro on this EliteBook 840 G3?

The laptop ships with Windows 10 Pro x64 pre-installed, so a separate licence is only needed if you plan a clean install on a different drive.

Can I keep using my VGA monitor with the full-size DisplayPort and VGA ports on this 840 G3?

Yes, the unit provides one full-size DisplayPort and one VGA port, so legacy VGA displays connect directly without an adapter.

How can I confirm the Intel HD Graphics 520 is active after setup?

Open Device Manager, expand Display adapters, and verify Intel HD Graphics 520 appears as the listed graphics device.
