Business laptop with 14 inch screen

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U processor. It comes with 32 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SATA SSD. The system runs Windows 10 Home on a 1366 x 768 IPS panel with Intel HD Graphics 520.

Suits mobile professionals needing memory and ports

This unit suits users who want abundant RAM for multitasking and a full set of legacy ports including VGA, DisplayPort, RJ-45 and USB 3.1 Type C. Buyers who need a touchscreen, a higher resolution display or a dedicated graphics card should look elsewhere.

32 GB DDR4 memory in a dual core chassis

The 32 GB DDR4 memory is the specification that defines this configuration. It allows heavy multitasking on a dual core processor, but the 1366 x 768 screen and integrated graphics limit visual workloads.

Questions about this item

Will the i5-6300U throttle under long workloads?

The dual-core 2.4 GHz processor with 3 MB cache relies on the laptop cooling design; sustained heavy tasks will hit thermal limits before the CPU reaches its maximum turbo frequency.

How loud and hot does the EliteBook 840 G3 get during all-day use?

Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 and the 14.0" LED panel keep power draw modest, so fan noise stays low and surface temperatures remain comfortable for typical office workloads.

What must I already own to use the USB 3.1 Type-C port on this laptop?

The single USB 3.1 Type-C port follows the USB 3.1 specification, so any USB-C peripheral or cable rated for USB 3.1 or USB 3.0 will work without extra adapters.
