Business laptop with 14 inch display

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor running at 2.4 GHz. It ships with 8 GB of DDR3 memory, a 1 TB M.2 SATA SSD and Windows 10 Pro 64-bit pre-installed. The non-touch Full HD panel delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution with LED backlighting.

Ports and connectivity for desk or travel

Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 uses shared system memory and drives the internal screen plus external monitors through a full-size DisplayPort and a VGA port. Wired networking is handled by a Gigabit RJ-45 jack while wireless uses 802.11 b/g/n or better. Two USB 3.0 Type-A ports and one USB 3.1 Type-C port handle peripherals and a SIM card reader supports mobile broadband when a card is fitted.

Charger and battery included for immediate use

The package supplies the laptop, its charger and the installed battery so the system is ready to run without extra purchases. Grade B condition means the chassis shows visible cosmetic blemishes such as scratches or surface imperfections that do not affect operation. Buyers who need a pristine exterior or a touchscreen should consider other options.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.4 GHz i5-6300U throttle under long workloads?

The dual-core Skylake CPU runs at 2.4 GHz base with 3 MB L3 cache; sustained loads will hit thermal limits before power limits in this 14.0 inch chassis.

How loud and hot does the laptop get during all-day use?

Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 shares system memory so the single fan spins up under load; expect noticeable warmth near the hinge and moderate fan noise after hours of continuous work.

Which cables or docks do I need to drive an external monitor?

One full-size DisplayPort and one VGA port are built in; the USB 3.1 Type-C port carries data only so a DisplayPort or VGA cable is required for video output.
