Business laptop with 14-inch display

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor running at 2.4 GHz. It comes with 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB SATA SSD. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 drives the non-touch 1366 x 768 LED panel. This unit is graded B for LCD condition.

Connectivity and included accessories

Two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 3.1 Type C port provide peripheral connections. A full-size DisplayPort and a VGA port support external monitors. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11 wireless handle networking. A SIM card reader is fitted. The box contains the laptop, a charger and the battery.

Practical limits of the integrated graphics

The HD 520 uses shared system memory, limiting 3D performance to basic workloads. The 1366 x 768 resolution restricts on-screen workspace compared to higher-density panels. Grade B LCD grading means visible wear such as pressure marks or uneven backlighting may be present. Buyers who need colour-accurate work or modern gaming should consider other options.

Questions about this item

Will the 512 GB SATA SSD need to be replaced for more storage later?

The 512 GB SATA SSD is the primary drive; adding capacity later depends on whether a second M.2 slot or 2.5 inch bay is free inside the chassis.

What limits sustained performance first on the Core i5-6300U?

The dual-core 2.4 GHz processor with 3 MB cache will hit thermal limits before the integrated HD 520 graphics becomes the bottleneck.

How loud and hot does the EliteBook 840 G3 get during an all-day workload?

Fan noise rises under continuous load while the bottom surface warms noticeably; the 45 W charger stays warm but within normal operating range.
