EliteBook 840 G3 business laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch business laptop built around a dual-core Intel Core i7-6600U processor with a turbo frequency of 3.40 GHz. It ships with 16GB of DDR3 memory and a new 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. Windows 10 Home 64-bit comes pre-installed for immediate use.

Sustained workload behaviour

The dual-core design handles office applications and web workloads within its thermal envelope. Under continuous load the processor maintains clocks near the base frequency while the integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 manages the 1366 x 768 HD panel. The DDR3 memory and NVMe storage keep responsiveness steady during long sessions.

Installation and common issues

Memory upgrades use two slots with a maximum of 32 GB supported. The M.2 NVMe drive is the primary storage device and can be replaced with another NVMe module. Buyers who need more storage than 240GB or a touchscreen display should consider other models.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the EliteBook 840 G3 get when the i7-6600U runs at 3.40 GHz all day?

The dual-core i7-6600U operates at a base frequency of 2.60 GHz and can reach 3.40 GHz with Intel HD Graphics 520 handling visuals, so typical office workloads keep fan noise and surface temperatures moderate.

Which peripherals or docks must I already own to use the 14.0" 1366 x 768 display and 16GB DDR3 memory?

The 14.0" HD panel and 16GB of DDR3 are built in; you only need a power adapter and any USB peripherals you prefer, while the M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD is already installed.

Will the Intel HD Graphics 520 and Windows 10 Home 64-bit work with my older USB 2.0 accessories and external monitors?

Yes — Windows 10 Home 64-bit maintains broad USB 2.0 compatibility, and the Intel HD Graphics 520 can drive external displays through the available video outputs on the EliteBook 840 G3.
