14.0" Business Laptop for Mobile Professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0-inch laptop built around a dual-core Intel Core i5-6300U processor running at 2.40 GHz with a 3.00 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 16GB of DDR3 memory and a new 500GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. Windows 10 Home 64-bit comes pre-installed on the HD 1366 x 768 non-touch display with Intel HD Graphics 520.

Upgrade from Older Hard-Drive Notebooks

This unit replaces ageing laptops that still rely on mechanical hard drives and 4GB or 8GB of RAM. The jump is worth it when daily work involves multiple browser tabs, Office apps and video calls that stall on slower storage. The 500GB NVMe drive and 16GB memory remove those bottlenecks, while the dual-core CPU handles typical business workloads without the heat of larger chips.

Straightforward Deployment with One Hardware Limit

The laptop arrives ready to use; Windows 10 is already licensed and configured. Memory upgrades are possible thanks to two slots supporting up to 32GB total, but the M.2 slot is occupied by the boot SSD so adding a second drive is not an option. Buyers who need more internal storage or a discrete GPU should look elsewhere. The silver chassis includes a webcam and Bluetooth for remote meetings.

Questions about this item

Does the 14.0 inch chassis use standard VESA mounting holes for a desk arm?

This EliteBook 840 G3 is a clamshell laptop without VESA mounting holes; it is designed to sit on a flat surface or a laptop stand that grips the base.

What is the correct order for seating the two DDR3 SO-DIMM modules when upgrading to 32 GB?

Power off, remove the bottom cover, insert each module at a 30 degree angle into the two slots until the side clips click, then replace the cover before booting.

When the 500 GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD reaches its write endurance limit, what replacement form factor is required?

A new M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe drive is needed; clone the existing Windows 10 Home installation or perform a clean install after swapping the drive.
