Purpose-built business laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14-inch laptop built for mobile professionals who need a reliable Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor with a 3.40 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 16GB of DDR3 memory and a new 500GB SATA SSD. The 1366 x 768 HD display and integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 handle everyday productivity tasks without a dedicated GPU.

Who this suits and who it does not

This configuration suits buyers who want a lightweight Silver chassis with 16GB of RAM already installed and the option to expand to 32GB across two slots. It is not for users who require a touchscreen, a higher-resolution panel or a pre-installed operating system. Buyers needing more internal storage than 500GB or discrete graphics for heavy rendering should look elsewhere.

Build integration

The 2.5-inch SATA drive bay allows straightforward storage upgrades while the existing 500GB SSD provides a clean slate for the OS of your choice. Two memory slots free up upgrade headroom to 32GB if workloads grow. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 drives external displays through the available video outputs without adding a separate graphics card.

Questions about this item

What operating system do I need to install on the HP EliteBook 840 G3 before it will boot?

The laptop ships with no operating system, so you must provide and install your own copy of Windows, Linux or another OS before the machine can start up.

Can I keep using my existing DDR3 SO-DIMM modules to reach the 32 GB maximum memory supported?

Yes, the system has two DDR3 slots and supports up to 32 GB total, so compatible DDR3 modules you already own can be added or swapped to reach that limit.

How can I verify the Intel HD Graphics 520 is active after I install the OS?

Open Device Manager in Windows or run lspci on Linux; the display adapter should be listed as Intel HD Graphics 520, confirming the integrated GPU is recognised and working.
