HP EliteBook 840 G3 for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch laptop built around an Intel Core i7-6500U dual-core processor with a 3.10 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 16GB of DDR3 memory and a new 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. Windows 10 Home 64-bit is pre-installed for immediate use.

HD display and integrated graphics limits

The 1366 x 768 HD panel is non-touch and driven by Intel HD Graphics 520. This combination suits office applications and video playback but cannot render modern games or intensive 3D workloads at acceptable frame rates. External monitor support depends on the ports physically present on the chassis.

Straightforward memory upgrades

Two memory slots allow expansion up to 32 GB using DDR3 modules, a simple task for most users. The single M.2 NVMe slot is already occupied by the 2TB drive, so adding a second internal SSD is not possible without replacing the existing one. Buyers who want more internal storage must plan a drive swap.

Questions about this item

Is the 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD the only storage option available?

The laptop includes a NEW 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD as the sole storage device; no hard drive is fitted.

What does the 3.10 GHz turbo frequency mean for everyday use?

The dual-core i7-6500U can boost from its 2.50 GHz base up to 3.10 GHz for short bursts, speeding up single-threaded tasks such as opening apps or loading web pages.

Does the M.2 NVMe PCIe interface limit real-world drive speed?

The 2TB SSD connects via NVMe over PCIe, which removes the bottleneck of older interfaces and lets the drive reach its rated throughput.
