Business-ready 14" laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0" business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor at 2.4 GHz. It ships with 8GB DDR4 memory and a 128GB SATA SSD. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed. The HD display runs at 1366 x 768 with LED backlight.

Suited for office work and light mobility

This configuration suits users who need a compact machine for document editing, web browsing and video calls. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 uses shared system memory, so buyers who want more storage or a dedicated GPU for creative workloads should look elsewhere. The non-touch screen and Grade B LCD condition mean visible wear is possible.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous load the dual-core Skylake processor maintains its base frequency while the integrated graphics share the same thermal envelope. The single fan manages heat for both components, so extended compiles or large spreadsheets will see the chassis warm and clock speeds settle below the maximum turbo. The 128GB drive leaves limited headroom for temporary files during long sessions.

Questions about this item

Does the laptop need an external monitor because the 14.0" 1366 x 768 display is Grade B?

The built-in 14.0" LED panel works normally; Grade B only notes cosmetic wear such as minor scratches or pressure marks, not a functional defect.

Will my older VGA projector connect directly to the full-size VGA port on this EliteBook 840 G3?

Yes, the laptop includes a standard VGA output alongside DisplayPort, so legacy projectors plug in without an adapter.

How can I verify the Intel Core i5-6300U is running at its 2.4 GHz base speed after setup?

Open Task Manager > Performance > CPU and confirm the reported base clock reads 2.4 GHz under light load.
