HP EliteBook 840 G3 14" Business Laptop

This HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U processor at 2.4 GHz with 8GB DDR4 memory. It runs Windows 10 Home on a 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD and features Intel HD Graphics 520. The non-touch IPS display offers a 1366 x 768 resolution with LED backlighting.

Suited for office work and travel.

This configuration suits professionals who need a lightweight 14-inch chassis with a full-size DisplayPort, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet and USB 3.1 Type-C for docking or presentations. Buyers who want a touchscreen, a higher-resolution panel, dedicated graphics memory or greater internal storage should look at other models.

1366 x 768 non-touch IPS display decides fit

The 14.0-inch screen delivers a 1366 x 768 resolution on a non-touch IPS panel with LED backlight. If that pixel density and lack of touch input match your workflow, the laptop will serve well; if you need sharper text or pen support, this panel will not meet the requirement.

Questions about this item

Will the 256GB NVMe M.2 SSD need to be replaced as it wears out?

The 256GB NVMe M.2 SSD has no moving parts; under normal workloads it will last the useful life of the laptop without a scheduled replacement.

What limits performance first when the Intel Core i5-6300U runs at 2.4GHz continuously?

The dual-core Skylake CPU shares its 3MB L3 cache and thermal headroom with the Intel HD Graphics 520, so sustained loads hit temperature throttling before the 8GB DDR4 memory fills.

How loud and hot does the EliteBook 840 G3 get when left on all day?

The fan stays quiet during light tasks; extended heavy use raises chassis temperature around the DisplayPort and USB 3.1 Type C area while power draw remains within the 45W adapter rating.
