HP EliteBook 840 G3 laptop

This 14.0-inch business laptop uses an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor with a 2.40 GHz base frequency and 3.00 GHz turbo. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 drives the 1366 x 768 HD non-touch display. It ships with 8GB DDR3 memory and a new 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD, and no operating system is installed.

Suited for OS installers, not for touch users

The device suits buyers who will supply their own Windows or Linux licence and want a large NVMe boot drive. It does not suit users who need a touchscreen or a higher-resolution panel, and the 8GB DDR3 configuration may limit heavy multitasking unless extra memory is added.

2TB NVMe SSD decides storage fit

The single specification that decides fit is the new 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD, which provides high-capacity solid-state storage without a mechanical hard drive. Buyers needing a different capacity or interface must choose another model.

Questions about this item

How much heat and noise does the Core i5-6300U produce when the EliteBook 840 G3 runs all day?

The dual-core 2.40 GHz processor with 3.00 GHz turbo stays cool and quiet during typical office workloads; fan speed only rises under sustained heavy compute tasks.

What must I already own to use this laptop since it ships with no operating system?

You need a Windows or Linux installation media and a valid licence key to set up the OS before the machine is usable.

Will my existing DDR3 SO-DIMM modules work if I want to expand the 8 GB memory toward the 32 GB maximum?

Yes, the two memory slots accept standard DDR3 SO-DIMMs so compatible sticks you already have can be added to reach the 32 GB limit.
