14-inch business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch FHD laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-6500U dual-core processor with turbo up to 3.10 GHz. It ships with 16GB DDR3 memory and a new 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. Windows 10 Home 64-bit comes pre-installed. This silver chassis targets professionals who need a portable Windows machine with ample local storage.

Upgrade from smaller SSDs or older hard drives

The 2TB NVMe drive replaces lower-capacity solid-state drives or mechanical hard disks found in earlier business notebooks. The jump is worth it when your workload demands fast access to large project files, local databases or media libraries without relying on external storage. The dual-core CPU and integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 handle office suites and video conferencing, but they do not suit sustained heavy rendering or modern gaming workloads.

Straightforward setup with memory ceiling to watch

Windows 10 Home boots to a ready desktop, so initial configuration is limited to user accounts and updates. The two memory slots support up to 32 GB total, allowing a future DDR3 upgrade if 16 GB becomes a bottleneck. The non-touch FHD panel and fixed GPU mean display or graphics improvements require a different machine. Buyers needing more than 32 GB RAM, a dedicated graphics chip or a touchscreen should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Will the 14.0" FHD panel fit a standard 14-inch laptop sleeve?

Yes, the 14.0-inch diagonal and 1920 x 1080 resolution match the common 14-inch ultrabook form factor used by most sleeves.

Does the M.2 NVMe PCIe drive need a screwdriver or caddy to install?

The 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD mounts directly into the motherboard slot with a single screw; no drive caddy or cable is required.

Can the 16GB DDR3 memory be expanded later?

Two DDR3 slots support up to 32 GB total, so an additional module can be added to reach the maximum.
