14-inch HD business laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0-inch HD laptop running Windows 10 Home 64-bit. It uses an Intel Core i7-6500U dual-core processor with a turbo frequency of 3.10 GHz. The system includes 32GB of DDR3 memory and a new 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 handles the 1366 x 768 display.

Suited for office work.

This configuration suits professionals who need a mature Windows 10 environment, ample memory for multitasking and fast NVMe storage in a silver 14-inch chassis. Buyers who require a touchscreen, a higher-resolution panel or a dedicated graphics processor should look at something else. The dual-core CPU and integrated graphics limit performance in heavy creative or computational workloads.

32GB DDR3 memory is the maximum supported

The laptop provides 32GB of DDR3 RAM across two slots and the manufacturer specifies 32 GB as the maximum memory supported. No further memory upgrades are possible, so the installed capacity is fixed for the life of the device. Verify that this amount meets your application requirements before purchase.

Questions about this item

How long can the Core i7-6500U hold its 3.10 GHz turbo before it throttles under a heavy workload?

The dual-core processor can boost to 3.10 GHz, but sustained all-core loads will drop clocks to stay within its thermal envelope, so the exact hold time varies with cooling and ambient temperature.

What fan noise and surface temperatures should I expect after the EliteBook 840 G3 has been running all day?

Under continuous load the dual-core chip stays within its designed thermal envelope, so fan speed remains moderate and the keyboard deck stays warm rather than hot.

Does the 240 GB M.2 NVMe drive need a separate bracket or cable to install in this laptop?

The drive uses the standard M.2 NVMe slot inside the chassis; no extra bracket or cable is required.
