14 inch HD business laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch laptop with an HD 1366 x 768 non-touch display. It runs on an Intel Core i7-6500U dual-core processor with a base frequency of 2.50 GHz and a turbo frequency of 3.10 GHz. The system includes 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. Windows 10 Home 64-bit comes pre-installed.

Suited for office work and light mobility

This laptop suits professionals who need a compact silver device for document editing, web browsing and video calls using the integrated webcam. Bluetooth connectivity supports wireless peripherals. Buyers who need a higher resolution screen, a touchscreen panel, a discrete graphics card or more than 8GB of memory out of the box should look at other models.

240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD storage

The single specification that decides fit is the 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe solid state drive. It provides fast boot and application load times within a modest capacity. Users who require 1 terabyte or more of internal storage, or who need a 2.5 inch drive bay for additional drives, will find this capacity limiting. The board supports up to 32 GB of RAM across two slots for future upgrades.

Questions about this item

Do I need a separate DDR3 memory module to reach the 32 GB maximum?

The laptop has two memory slots and comes with 8GB DDR3 installed; you can add another DDR3 module to increase capacity up to 32 GB.

Will my existing 1366 x 768 external monitor work with the Intel HD Graphics 520 output?

Yes, the integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 supports that resolution, so your older monitor will display correctly.

How can I verify the 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD is recognised after setup?

Open Windows Disk Management or File Explorer; the drive should appear as a 240GB NVMe volume with the operating system installed.
