EliteBook 840 G3 business laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0-inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor with a 3.40 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 32 GB DDR3 memory and a new 500 GB NVMe SSD. The Full HD display resolves 1920 x 1080 and is non-touch. No operating system is included.

Memory and storage configuration

The 32 GB DDR3 fills both memory slots and reaches the platform maximum of 32 GB, so no further RAM upgrade is possible. A new 500 GB NVMe PCIe drive provides the sole internal storage; there is no hard-disk bay. Intel HD Graphics 520 handles the display output.

No operating system supplied

The unit arrives without an operating system, so the buyer must obtain and install Windows or another OS before use. This makes it unsuitable for anyone who needs a ready-to-run machine out of the box.

Questions about this item

Will the 32 GB DDR3 memory need replacing or can I add more later?

The laptop has two memory slots and both are filled to reach the 32 GB maximum, so no further upgrades are possible; if a module fails it must be replaced with another DDR3 SO-DIMM.

What limit appears first when the i7-6600U runs at 3.40 GHz for long periods?

The dual-core processor hits its thermal ceiling before the 500 GB NVMe SSD or the Intel HD Graphics 520 become bottlenecks, so sustained turbo clocks will throttle.

How loud and hot does the 14.0 inch chassis get during an all-day workload?

The cooling fan stays audible but not intrusive under typical office loads, and the silver chassis warms mainly around the keyboard deck while the 1920 x 1080 FHD panel remains cool.
