HP EliteBook 840 G3 14" laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch business laptop with an Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor, 8GB DDR3 memory and a new 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. It runs Windows 10 Home 64-bit and uses Intel HD Graphics 520 for everyday visual tasks. The silver chassis houses a non-touch HD display at 1366 x 768 resolution.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This laptop suits office workers and students who need ample solid-state storage and a familiar Windows 10 environment for documents, web apps and video calls. The dual-core CPU and integrated graphics limit heavy rendering, modern gaming or large-scale data analysis. Buyers who need more memory headroom, a touchscreen or a higher-resolution panel should look elsewhere.

Deciding specification: 2TB NVMe SSD

The single specification that decides fit is the new 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD, which provides very large, fast storage for projects and media without external drives. The system supports up to 32 GB of DDR3 across two slots if workloads later demand more RAM. Verify that your workflow can operate on the 1366 x 768 HD panel and dual-core performance before purchasing.

Questions about this item

What size M.2 slot does the EliteBook 840 G3 use for its 2 TB drive?

The 2 TB SSD fits a standard M.2 NVMe PCIe slot inside the 14.0 inch chassis.

Which screw or clip secures the M.2 drive during installation?

A single small screw holds the M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD in place; forgetting to tighten it is the common mistake.

How much DDR3 memory can I add later to the two slots?

The two DDR3 slots support up to 32 GB total, so you can expand beyond the installed 8 GB.
