HP EliteBook 840 G3 Business Laptop

This 14.0-inch HP EliteBook 840 G3 runs Windows 10 Home on an Intel Core i7-6500U processor at 2.50 GHz with Turbo up to 3.10 GHz. It has 16GB of DDR3 memory and a new 500GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. The non-touch FHD display shows 1920 x 1080 resolution through Intel HD Graphics 520.

Who This Suits and Who Should Look Elsewhere

The dual-core CPU and 16GB RAM suit office work, web browsing and video calls on a 14.0-inch FHD screen. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 cannot handle modern gaming or heavy 3D rendering. Buyers needing a dedicated GPU, more than 32GB maximum memory or a touchscreen should consider other options.

Deciding Specification — 500GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD

The new 500GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD is the key component that determines if this laptop fits the build. It provides the operating system drive and primary storage in one device. The system supports up to 32GB total DDR3 across two slots if more memory is required later.

Questions about this item

How much heat and noise should I expect from the Intel Core i7-6500U and Intel HD Graphics 520 during all-day use?

The dual-core i7-6500U runs at a 2.50 GHz base and 3.10 GHz turbo, so sustained workloads keep fan activity moderate and surface temperatures comfortable for lap use.

Which ports or peripherals must I already own to connect external displays to the 14.0" FHD 1920 x 1080 panel?

The EliteBook 840 G3 provides full-size HDMI and DisplayPort outputs, so any monitor or projector with those inputs works without adapters.

Will my existing DDR3 SO-DIMM modules work alongside the installed 16GB memory if I want to reach the 32 GB maximum?

Yes, the laptop has two DDR3 slots supporting up to 32 GB total, so you can add a matching 16 GB stick or replace both modules with a 32 GB kit.
