HP EliteBook 840 G4 14" business laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor running at 2.60 GHz with 3 MB L3 cache. It comes with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 128 GB M.2 SATA SSD. The HD display offers 1366 x 768 resolution with LED backlighting and integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 using shared system memory. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Suits mobile professionals needing legacy ports

This configuration suits professionals who need VGA, full-size DisplayPort, Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet and a USB 3.1 Type-C port on a compact chassis. The SIM card reader supports mobile broadband for field work. Buyers who want a touchscreen, higher resolution panel, discrete graphics or larger internal storage should look at other models. The non-touch HD screen and integrated graphics limit suitability for colour-critical design or modern gaming.

Straightforward setup with proprietary charger

The laptop ships with its charger and battery so initial setup is limited to powering on and completing the Windows 10 Pro first-run experience. Driver support is mature for the 7th generation Intel platform. The main friction point is the proprietary barrel power connector; losing the included charger means sourcing a specific HP replacement rather than using a generic USB-C supply.
