14-inch QHD business laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14.0-inch laptop built for office work and mobile productivity. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-7500U dual-core processor with a base speed of 2.7 GHz. The system includes 32GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD for fast storage access. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 drives the 2560 x 1440 LED-backlit display.

Suited for document workflows not creative rendering

This configuration serves professionals who need a sharp QHD screen for spreadsheets, email and video calls. The dual-core CPU and shared graphics memory limit performance in 3D modelling, video editing or modern gaming. Buyers who need sustained multi-core throughput or discrete GPU acceleration should look at a different system. The non-touch panel also rules out pen or finger input workflows.

32GB DDR4 memory is the capacity ceiling

The laptop ships with 32GB of DDR4 installed and the platform does not support more. If your workload regularly exceeds this limit — large virtual machines, heavy data-science datasets or complex compilation jobs — the fixed capacity will become a bottleneck. For lighter office loads the fitted amount is generous and the NVMe SSD keeps application launches snappy.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the Core i7-7500U at 2.7 GHz get when running all day?

The 15 W dual-core chip runs cool enough for quiet office use; fan noise stays low during typical business workloads.

What cables or docks do I need to drive the 2560 x 1440 QHD panel and Gigabit Ethernet?

The laptop provides full-size DisplayPort and VGA for external monitors plus an RJ-45 jack for wired networking; no extra adapters required for those connections.

Can I keep using my older VGA projector and USB 3.0 drives with the 840 G4?

Yes, a native VGA port and two USB 3.0 Type-A ports are built in, so legacy projectors and storage devices work directly.
