Mobile Professionals Needing Ports

This unit suits mobile professionals who need a full size DisplayPort, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet and USB 3.1 Type C on a light chassis. A SIM card reader supports mobile broadband. Buyers who want a touchscreen or a higher resolution panel should look at something else.

NVMe SSD Decides Fit

The 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD is the single specification that decides whether this is the right part. It provides fast boot and application loading for typical office workloads. Users who need more storage capacity or a secondary drive bay will need a different model.

Questions about this item

What physical dimensions and mounting points does the 14.0" HP EliteBook 840 G4 chassis require for a dock or sleeve?

The 14.0" silver chassis uses the standard EliteBook 840 G4 footprint; it accepts the HP USB-C Dock G5 via the single USB 3.1 Type-C port and the legacy dock connector on the bottom, and fits any 14-inch laptop sleeve or briefcase compartment.

How is the 512GB NVMe M.2 SSD installed, and what step do people often miss?

Remove the bottom cover, insert the M.2 2280 drive into the keyed slot at a 30° angle, press down and secure with the single retaining screw; the step often missed is enabling the NVMe controller in BIOS before cloning or installing Windows 10 Home x64.

What maintenance or replacement will the 16GB DDR4 memory and 3-cell battery need later?

The 16GB DDR4 is soldered and not upgradeable; the internal 3-cell polymer battery is user-replaceable after removing the base cover and disconnecting the cable — swap it when runtime drops below 80 % of the original 45 Wh capacity.
