Business 14-inch laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14.0-inch non-touch laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor running at 2.6 GHz with 3 MB L3 cache. It ships with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB M.2 SATA SSD. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 drives the 1366 x 768 HD LED display. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed with a Windows 11 Pro upgrade path available.

Connectivity suite for docked or roaming work

Two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 3.1 Type-C port handle peripherals and data. A full-size DisplayPort and a VGA port drive external monitors. Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet and 802.11 wireless provide wired and wireless LAN access. A SIM card reader enables mobile broadband where supported. The built-in webcam covers video calls. No optical drive is fitted, keeping the chassis light for travel.

Steps up from older dual-core ultrabooks

This unit replaces earlier dual-core business notebooks that maxed out at 4 GB memory or mechanical storage. The jump is worth it when you need 8 GB DDR4 and an M.2 SATA SSD for faster boot and application load. Buyers who need more storage, a higher-resolution panel, discrete graphics or a touchscreen should look elsewhere.
