Business-ready 14 laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14.0-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor running at 2.6 GHz. It comes with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 128 GB M.2 SATA SSD. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 drives the 1366 x 768 HD display. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed with a Windows 11 Pro upgrade path available.

Installation and common issues

The unit ships with charger and battery included so setup is limited to unboxing and connecting power. No optical drive is present so any legacy media must be read via an external USB device. The single USB 3.1 Type-C port carries data only and does not support video or charging, so external monitors must use the full-size DisplayPort or VGA connector.

Pre-order checklist

Verify that your workflow can operate within 128 GB of internal storage or plan for external drives and cloud sync. Confirm that the 1366 x 768 non-touch panel meets your viewing requirements. Ensure any required peripherals can connect through two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one USB 3.1 Type-C port, Gigabit RJ-45, VGA or DisplayPort. Wireless connectivity is 802.11 b/g/n or better.
