Business ultraportable with QHD display

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14.0 inch laptop built for mobile professionals who need a sharp screen and plenty of memory. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-7500U dual-core processor at 2.70 GHz with 32GB DDR4 RAM. A 256GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD provides fast storage for documents and applications.

Suited to office work and travel, not heavy graphics

This configuration serves users who prioritise a high-resolution 2560 x 1440 LED panel, generous 32GB memory and lightweight portability for productivity tasks. Buyers who need discrete graphics performance, a touchscreen interface or larger local storage capacity should consider other models.

2560 x 1440 QHD non-touch screen decides fit

The 14.0 inch Quad HD display delivers crisp text and ample workspace for multitasking, but it lacks touch input and relies on integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 with shared system memory. If your workflow requires touch control or dedicated GPU power, this screen specification makes the unit unsuitable.

Questions about this item

What speed does the USB 3.1 Type-C port deliver and what does that limit?

The USB 3.1 Type-C port runs at 10 Gbps, which caps real-world throughput below that figure for any attached NVMe storage or dock.

Which physical slots and bays must be free to install the memory and storage?

The 32 GB of DDR4 occupies both SO-DIMM slots, and the 256 GB NVMe M.2 SSD uses the single M.2 PCIe slot; no 2.5-inch bay is present.

How is Windows 10 Pro activated after a clean install and what step do people skip?

Windows 10 Pro activates automatically via the firmware licence; the step often missed is connecting to the internet so the digital licence can validate.
