Business-ready 14-inch laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a new 14.0-inch notebook built for professionals who need a compact Windows 10 Pro machine. It runs on an Intel Core i7-7500U dual-core processor at 2.7 GHz with a 3.5 GHz turbo and 4 MB cache, paired with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB SSD for fast boot and load times.

Connectivity and media bundle

The system includes Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 for 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports (one with charging), a USB-C port with DisplayPort output, VGA, RJ-45 Ethernet, a docking connector and a headphone/microphone combo jack. A 720p webcam, dual microphones and built-in speakers cover conferencing without extra peripherals.

Practical limits of the platform

Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 handles everyday business apps and video playback but is not suited for modern 3D workloads or heavy GPU compute. The 8 GB soldered memory cannot be expanded, so buyers who need more RAM for virtual machines or large datasets should look elsewhere. The 512 GB SSD offers solid capacity for documents and applications, yet users with large media libraries will require external storage.

Questions about this item

Can the 8GB DDR4 memory be upgraded later?

The 8GB DDR4 is soldered and cannot be increased, so the capacity you buy is permanent.

Will the Intel Core i7-7500U throttle at its 3.5 GHz turbo under long loads?

Sustained turbo is limited by the thin chassis cooling, so clocks drop toward the 2.7 GHz base during extended heavy work.

How loud does the fan get and how hot does the 14.0" chassis run all day?

The single fan spins up audibly under load and the bottom surface becomes warm, typical for a 5.0000 kg ultraportable running continuously.
