Business laptop with 14-inch display

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14-inch business laptop powered by a dual-core Intel Core i5-7300U processor running at 2.6 GHz. It comes with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 solid-state drive. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 handles the 1366 x 768 resolution screen. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed.

Upgrade from slower storage or less memory

Replacing a traditional hard drive with the included NVMe solid-state drive cuts boot and application load times significantly. The 16 GB memory allowance supports heavier multitasking than 8 GB configurations common in this class. The jump is worth it when daily workflows involve large spreadsheets, multiple browser tabs or virtual machines that exceed lower capacities.

Limited by HD resolution and integrated graphics

The 1366 x 768 panel restricts on-screen workspace compared to full-HD alternatives, making side-by-side document work tighter. Integrated graphics share system memory and suit office applications but cannot accelerate modern 3D workloads or drive high-refresh external displays. Buyers who need more screen real estate or discrete graphics performance should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

What ports and spacing does the EliteBook 840 G4 provide for a docking station or external monitors?

It has one full-size DisplayPort, one VGA port, one USB 3.1 Type C, two USB 3.0 ports and a Gigabit RJ-45 jack for docks or displays.

Which screw or latch secures the M.2 512GB NVMe PCIe drive during installation?

The drive slides into the M.2 slot at an angle and is held by a single Phillips screw; the common mistake is not pushing it fully flat before tightening.
