Business laptop with 32 GB DDR4

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 ships new with an Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor running at 2.60 GHz. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe drive give office workloads and multitasking ample headroom. A 14.0 inch 1366 x 768 LED panel provides a standard business display. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed for immediate deployment.

Memory and storage capacity

Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 handles heavy browser tabs, virtual machines and large spreadsheets without paging. The 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD keeps boot times and application launches quick while storing a full corporate image. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 shares system memory, so graphically intensive tasks or multiple external monitors will hit limits quickly.

Thermals and power in daily use

The ultra-low-voltage i5-7300U and integrated graphics keep heat output modest during typical productivity work. Fan noise stays low when processing documents, email and web apps under Windows 10 Pro. Under sustained multi-core loads the dual-core chip will throttle to maintain safe temperatures, and battery runtime drops accordingly.

Questions about this item

Will the USB 3.1 Type C port on this EliteBook 840 G4 work with my older USB 3.0 devices?

Yes, the single USB 3.1 Type C port is backward compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 peripherals, so existing drives, docks and mice will function normally.

How can I confirm the Intel Core i5-7300U is running at its 2.6 GHz base speed after I set up the laptop?

Open Task Manager, select the Performance tab and watch the CPU clock; it should sit at or near 2.6 GHz when the system is idle and rise under load.

Does the box contain a DisplayPort cable for the full-size DisplayPort output, or do I need to buy one separately?

The package includes the laptop, charger and battery only; a DisplayPort cable for the full-size port must be purchased separately.
